We at Ilai focus on nurturing lives and sustaining livelihoods. We value add a local waste material and market it globally and in the process we facilitate economic independence of women and youth in rural South India. The palm leaves has now been an additional source of income to the farmers. Besides leaving economic impact on the lives of farmers, our products can generously contribute towards reduction of plastic waste.

Enterprise with Social Responsibility

We have been supporting farmer groups, women groups and youths to grow them as leaf entrepreneurs through collecting and selling of leaves. We foster women’s empowerment, encouraging women to set up smaller household-level production units and to become entrepreneurs. We do not want to set up a big production facility, rather we would produce in small clusters scattered around the region so the women we employ can work close to their families, and actually have a lower carbon footprint because they don’t need to travel. We are now at the very beginning, wherein our project in full phase shall generate direct employment opportunities as well as create independent leaf entrepreneurs, the majority of which shall be women, in addition increase the income status of thousands of farmers.
